I love this photo because it reminds me that in all the craziness that is parenting, I definitely made one good decision. My daughter, an extraordinary young woman who just finished her first year in college, was five at the time and interested in doing ballet but clearly told me she would “not wear all that pink stuff.” I am so grateful that I did not try to talk her into it, but instead asked the ballet instructor if my daughter could attend the class without wearing the uniform. If said ballet teacher ever sees this, thank you so much for embracing my daughter as she was. So, here is my daughter: the powerful soul that came to our family, doing ballet in denim shorts and tee shirt, while totally owning the tiara. I am so glad I listened to you, my dear one, and held the space for you to do things your way.
